Developed by Dr. James Birren over the past 30 years, Guided Autobiography (GAB) is a methodology that enables people to document their life stories. Guided by a trained facilitator, participants are led through themes and priming questions that evoke memories of critical events in their lives. In this workshop participants are facilitated to write and share their life stories with each other. This will help them to put their life events into perspective, rediscover themselves and find new meaning in life. GAB can serve as a powerful catalyst for developing self-awareness and improving relationships with others.
This workshop will enable participants to:
- Discover a self-enlightening experience
- Put life events in perspective
- Design a renewed life portfolio
Participants are guided through a tested plan that uses a series of life themes. These themes enable us to gain access to our memories and organize them in a way that we honour our life’s complex threads and present them in a unique and richly woven fabric of life. And sharing and writing give our memories context and meaning. Themes may include:
- The major branching points in your life
- Your family
- The role of money in your life
- Your major life work or career
- Your experiences with and ideas about death
- Your spiritual life and values
- Your goals and aspirations
Third agers, especially those who are retiring or have retired and are coping with lifestyle changes. Others interested.
