                Launch of U3A Singapore - 31 Mar 2014

The 50plus Expo 2014 will be held at Suntec City this year and once again we have been invited by the host organisation, Council for Third Age (C3A), as a partner for the event. It will be a very special for us this year as the 3-day Expo on 28-30 Mar 2014 immediately precedes our Official Launch of U3A Singapore. For the last two years we have been working very hard on U3A Singapore and most of the events and activities were carried out jointly by SACE and U3A Singapore. With the valuable lessons learnt from the Melbourne Conference and recent visits to U3As in Auckland, we are now ready to scale up activities and bring U3A learning activities to more of the increasing no.  of third agers in Singapore.

The launch of U3 Singapore will take place at the Possibility Room in the National Library Building in Middle Road. In conjunction with the launch, our President Goh Kim Seng will give a talk on The Psychology of Ageing. The following invitation has been sent out to our members and guests and admission will be by registration as the NLB strictly limits the room to 120 persons only.

Guided Autobiography (GAB)
3rd Run by SACE & U3A
Developed by Dr. James Birren over the past 30 years, Guided Autobiography (GAB) is a methodology that enables people to document their life stories. Guided by a trained facilitator, participants are led through themes and priming questions that evoke memories of critical events in their lives. In this workshop participants are facilitated to write and share their life stories with each other. This will help them to put their life events into perspective, rediscover themselves and find new meaning in life. GAB can serve as a powerful catalyst for developing self-awareness and improving relationships with others.
This workshop will enable participants to:
Discover a self-enlightening experience
Put life events in perspective
Design a renewed life portfolio
Programme Outline
Participants are guided through a tested plan that uses a series of life themes. These themes enable us to gain access to our memories and organize them in a way that we honour our life’s complex threads and present them in a unique and richly woven fabric of life. And sharing and writing give our memories context and meaning. Themes may include:
The major branching points in your life
Your family
The role of money in your life
Your major life work or career
Your experiences with and ideas about death
Your spiritual life and values
Your goals and aspirations
For Whom
Third agers, especially those who are retiring or have retired and are coping with lifestyle changes. Others interested.

Tools for Improving Relationship Chemistry

Be it a business relationship or a personal one, this can fail. When it does, stress goes up for both parties and much time and effort is needlessly wasted in coping with it. With the wrong responses such wastage can multiply many times and the situation can worsen considerably. It is a major loss in anyone's life if a relationship fails irretrievably and some may bear psychological scars and suffer for years. Can such pain and suffering be avoided? Psychologists generally believe so and would recommend a calm and reasoned approach in contrast to the usual emotive responses. Some relationship consultants like Rochele Hirsch have even developed practical tools and techniques to help people cope more effectively with relationship problems or prevent these from developing. In this session she will show the use of two such tools and also introduce the option of TRANSFORMATION - a process that permanently changes and relieves the stress pattern in a relationship or work situation

Programme Outline

Tool 1 : Love Scorecard

• Tool 2 : True Energy Types
